Notorious Kids’ share their top tips on styling a super cool kid’s party this summer

NOTORiOUS KiDS is one of the hottest children’s party companies in the UK right now, and owner and creator Victoria Pearce has shared her expert top tips with TOAST on how to style a super stylish kid’s party like a pro this summer.

NOTORiOUS KiDS are the creators behind some of the most magical and imaginative children’s events and parties in London, and beyond. The company was founded in 2007 by Victoria Pearce; a professional actress, singer and dancer who has worked with children for over 16 years performing, teaching and entertaining. She is a self-confessed entertainment guru, and a specialist in all things FUN!

Summer brings outdoor celebrations and what better way to get the family together with both big and little guests, and embrace the British summertime with a party alfresco?! she enthuses.

If you’re organising a children’s party this summer and want to focus on creating a really fun and beautifully dressed party that appeals to both the children and grown up guests alike, then here are NOTORiOUS KiDS 5 key points to focus on when planning and putting it all together”

Great summer parties start with a great theme so before you start thinking about what food you might serve or how you might decorate your outdoor space, choose your theme. Summer lends itself to so many fun themes with lots of colourful combinations; choose a colour palate of approximately 3 colours to bring your theme to life and then incorporate these into every element from table decorations, balloons, party bags and even food!

Victoria’s top tip - always choose a theme that the birthday boy or girl will really love - whether this is simply Fairies or their favourite food such as Ice Cream.

Styled party food tables are always a great way to theme and dress a party simply. We absolutely love designing and styling beautifully dressed tables that not only look great but are also practical and fun for the children too. Choose age appropriate sized furniture for the children attending and get inspired by researching your theme on Pinterest or Instagram.

Sometimes simplicity is key; we like to work with a clean white canvas first and add pops of colour to our party tables using our signature style which includes themed table runners, colour co-ordinated tableware and themed table centre pieces, as well as adding other fun accents of theming such as balloons tied to chairs or masks or crowns added to each place. Food tables are always best kept either in the shade or inside to avoid things blowing away, and it’s also a good idea to have a shaded area for children to sit under should it be a hot sunny day! Alternatively create a fun picnic area with lots of rugs and cushions in a shaded area where children can gather together for a tasty picnic.

Victoria’s top tip - always have a wet weather plan in case of rain, having a space inside or - even better - have a structure such as a marquee or tent in the garden for shelter should you need it. We love stretch tents as they still allow lots of natural light in and look great.

When it comes to party food there are so many ways to keep it simple but also effective and fun. Creating large buffet tables and cake tables with lots of yummy sweet treats on are a great way to make it accessible for your guests, as well as adding another styled element to your party décor. We love styling and designing cake tables with lots of treats on, this Lego Party is one of our favourites to date; featuring cupcakes, chocolate covered Oreo’s, iced biscuits, cake pops and jelly beans in the four primary colours. We used Lego base plates to display the biscuits on and black cake stands for the cupcakes, clear jars for the jellybeans with scoops and paper bags all with bespoke Lego themed signs. So much fun!

Victoria’s top tip - make sure you have lots of water available for your mini guests - if it’s a hot day and children are running around it’s important to keep them hydrated. Large jugs of water or mason jars with taps are great and allow guests to help themselves. You can add fruits to these to make them more interesting too.

Themed entertainment can be an important element to help tie your party theme together. We create bespoke entertainment and always ensure that our entertainers are dressed in immaculate costumes, and we like to keep these within the colour scheme of the party to ensure the styling isn’t only down to the decoration. Additional elements such as face painting and balloon modellers are great too as they can focus on creating face designs and balloons within the theme too.

Victoria’s top tip - crafts are a great activity for a summer party. Having a table set up with something fun that children can create can also double up as a gift to take home. We like to offer quality crafts that are not destined for the bin, such as t-shirt decorating or hat making.

The great outdoors provides a natural canvas so summer parties can be simple to decorate. Balloons are always a favourite, however they can start to look a little tired if they are being blown about in the wind, so make sure you choose larger balloons and peg them into the ground, or choose more structured balloon creations such as arches and towers. There are some really fantastic paper decorations on the market at the moment too like paper pom poms and honeycombs. We love these fun Pineapple decorations from Party Pieces

Victoria’s top tip - you can never have enough string, gaffa tape and scissors. Make sure when you start decorating you have all of this to hand and rope in a few friends to help too.
