Paul A Young’s Ultimate Hot Chocolate Recipe
Fancy an early Christmas present? Of course you do! Here is Paul A Young's mouth watering recipe for making the ultimate hot chocolate at home this winter.
Serves: 4
Preparation time: 10 minutes
What you'll need
500 mls/ 17 fl oz / 2 cups water
100g/3.5 oz/ ½ cup unrefined golden caster sugar
25g / 1 oz / 1/3 cup cocoa powder
100g/3.5 oz/ ½ cup 70% dark chocolate broken into pieces or chocolate chips
Method
- In a saucepan, bring the water, sugar and cocoa powder to a simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add the chocolate and whisk until the chocolate has melted.
- Just before serving whisk very well until frothy, then pour into a drinking receptacle of your choice.
Paul's Top Tips
- Make in advance and store in the fridge until needed and reheat in a saucepan.
- Add spices like cinnamon and nutmeg while cooking for an aromatic hot chocolate.
- Add a measure of whisky or brandy for a warming winter hot chocolate.
