First things first – what about the weather?

We see our lanterns being used all year round! We have a range of nylon lanterns that are fab for use outside during the great British weather! Our red and white nylon lanterns have decorated walkways at National Trust locations around the country, our brightly coloured nylon lanterns have been used at a variety of festivals including The Isle of Wight, Electric Daisy Carnival and Glastonbury. In fact our nylon lanterns recently lined the South Bank for the Paddington 2 premiere! The nylon lanterns are wonderfully rich in colour so really pop against trees and greenery of a garden or meadow.

You stock hundreds of lanterns – how would recommend someone pick the right lanterns for them? What should they consider?

Anything a client can tell us or show us about their thoughts for the big day will allow us to start to narrow down the choices. We have some who have very definite ideas about what they do or do not want whilst others are looking for some colour but don’t know what. We talk to them about their colour scheme, their flowers, their stationery, the venue, their likes and dislikes. We can use imagery to help all our clients visualize their ideas.

What lanterns would you recommend for a spring soiree?

I would suggest greens to bring the outside in and really enjoy spring finally arriving after what seems like a long grey winter. I would mix soft sage tones with brighter grass green colours. Adding white would give a crisp fresh finish.

What are some of the most popular ‘themes’ that you offer?

Pastels have always been and I think will always be popular, they’re subtle, safe and compliment any day. Sophisticated neutral lantern canopies are also very popular.

What colours do you think will be big in events this year?

Copper and rose gold are my predictions for this year. Party hosts and discerning wedding couples are always looking for something a little special and a little different to anything they have seen before.

We love Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2018 – Ultra Violet. How would recommend incorporating this colour into an event?

I personally love Violet - it’s a rich tone that’s perfect sitting alongside our purple lanterns, or some of our other bright Bollywood style lanterns including turquoise, fuchsia, lime and mango. It’s quite a versatile shade and an opulent one – who wouldn’t want a bit of regality at their wedding or event, especially with the Royal weddings ahead!

Are your lanterns easy to put up?

They are very simple to construct and put up, we offer a range of hanging options to suit different venues and always guide our clients step by step. We even draw coloured plans to help them on the day! We have clips for marquees, magnetic hooks for hotel ballrooms, adhesive hooks for homes and fishing line galore for beamed venues!

Could you put them up for us?

We certainly can! I love dressing venues, it’s so exciting to see the look come to life months and months after starting discussions with a client. Our teams are dab hands at working with and around other event teams setting up tables, chairs and dance floors and often work late and arrive early to suit the venues needs too.

How are they lit?

Our LED Buttonlites are battery-powered units to hang inside the lanterns; they offer 36-48 hours of an ambient glow. Some clients pop one in every lantern whilst others illuminate half of their lanterns. They’re great as they allow you to hang your lanterns wherever you want.

Are the lanterns safe?

Our lanterns are safety tested and certified in the UK in accordance with BS EN 60598 which allows them to be used safely with mains powered lighting such as festoon lighting, fairy lights and lighting cords in the home.

What can we do with them after the event is over?

Many brides keep them to decorate for their first wedding anniversary as the traditional gift is paper, or save them for other parties and events, whilst others pass them on to family and friends.

Any other top tips?

Don’t try to do too much on the day or the day before! Ensure that you have the helpers and time to decorate your venue or let us do it - it really is worth it!
