Getting creative with experiential events experts and luxury design agency Kit & Caboodle

Creativity is key when planning any event, but sometimes you just need a little inspiration. TOAST caught up with Tanya Clark, Founder and Creative Director of cutting edge events agency Kit & Caboodle to talk about how they harness their endless creativity, and continue to push the boundaries with experiential design.



From creating wild and wonderful concepts to full event management, unique and imaginative styling to in-house bespoke builds, Kit and Caboodle can provide, well, the whole kit and caboodle. 

“It’s all about creativity, creativity, creativity!’ explains Founder and Creative Director Tanya Clark.

I used to be a set designer and art director in film and TV – that’s is where my passion for creating unique environments came from really. I had a taste of doing events and loved working on diverse, creative projects. I had a lot of high demand from clients, so I decided I set up my own agency!”

And now with demand higher than ever, Kit and Caboodle have offices in both West London and the party isle of Ibiza; they are a full service creative production and experiential events and design agency, producing extraordinarily impressive events for both big name corporate and discerning private clients across the globe. 

As well as having bags of creativity, the team also have over 35 years combined experience in production, manufacture and construction, so not only can they come up with the idea, but they can build it for you too. Remember what I said about them be able to provide the whole kit and caboodle?

“We delivered an amazing event recently for a private client in Azerbaijan, where we built giant sculptural trees! And at George Harrison’s memorial concert at The Royal Albert Hall we dropped 300,000 scented petals over a very emotional audience…” recalls Tanya.

“But seeing our ideas come to life is really the best aspect of what we do - the amazing reaction of our clients is everything!”

Some of their other recent, high profile events have included Facebook’s Summer and Christmas parties, The British Fashion Awards (4 years running), the MTV European Music Awards in both Berlin and Madrid, Elton John’s Grey Goose sponsored charity event, Riccardo Tisci of Givency’s 40th birthday, as well as dozens of high-end weddings and private parties worldwide.

Tanya and her team were also recently commissioned by the Bahrain Royal family to create a very special, celebratory environment in which they could welcome a Royal birth, in the wing of an exclusive London hospital. Their requirements included a bespoke quiet room with luxurious crib, a harmonious waiting room, a stylish area for guests to enjoy refreshments, and an exceptional room for the parents and new born to spend the night. 

We only had 2 weeks to turn the whole event around, so it was quite a military operation!” laughs Tanya.

One of the company’s many expertise is being able to offer highly creative, imaginative experiences by implementing something that they describe as ‘experiential design’. From initial creative concept and detailed mood boards, to high spec visualizations using the latest CAD (computer-aided design and drafting) and rendering software, the Kit & Caboodle designers pride themselves on delivering unique, cutting edge event concepts every time. 

In light of the rise of the Internet and technology, brands are having to engage with their audiences in much more experiential and sensory ways, and we help them achieve this by designing immersive environments.” explains Tanya. 

“For example, last year we built Adidas’ ‘Futurehouse' - a pop-up in Shoreditch where we had a giant walk-in kaleidoscope and created a dystopian concrete landscape with jets of fire! Our ‘Anything is Possible’ approach brings a fresh, fun and magical yet logical approach to any event really – big or small.”

Giant kaleidoscopes and jets of fire all sound very exciting in principal, but one big challenge faced by events companies across the industry is ensuring that their wildly imaginative concepts look as good and work as well in reality, as they do on paper. Discerning brands and party hosts want both style and substance, impressive form and superb functionality.   

“We have a product and logistics team who test materials and prototype ideas to ensure they can realise our crazy ideas!” explains Tanya. 

“That is why we decided to have our own in house production facility, so that we can closely manage the process. Choosing the right texture and materials are a really important aspect. We have the experience of knowing what works and what doesn’t.”

Whether you’re after a classic, understated garden party or a quirky outdoor scenario based on anything from the exotic bazaar in Marrakesh, to a magical, illuminated garden dressed for Alice and the Mad Hatter, Tanya and her team work closely with each client in order to ensure that their ideas and objectives fully realised, taking them through a creative process called ‘Discovery’.

“Sometimes clients will have their own ideas but mostly they approach us for our ideas and inspirations, to advise them on what they need and what will work for them” explains Tanya.

“We don’t limit ourselves. We draw inspiration from everything around us. My wonderful team always makes sure that we are on the pulse on what is culturally relevant and we feed this intel into our creative process. It’s all in the detail!” 

Kit and Caboodle also have a vast emporium of event furniture, decorations and props available to hire, from DJ booths and four poster day beds to floor cushions and colourful bean bags, designed to give any event immediate style, personality and presence.

But out of their impressive selection, what does Tanya think are the must have items for 2017?

“Well, we have a unique modular walling system so that you can build really huge structures - we recently used it for the British Fashion Awards and for Gucci. Our summer lounge furniture range is also very popular - its very Miami!” she describes.

“Our giant heart-shaped disco balls are always a must for any party! And our giant retro roller-skate is amazing - you can actually climb up the laces!”

I would expect nothing less.
