Celebrate National Champagne Week

TOAST's pick of the best fizzy fun

At TOAST we never need an excuse to drink champagne, but considering it is National Champagne Week this week, well, it would be rude not to. Here are our top picks for celebrating this annual festival of fizz.

As a Brit myself I am proud to tell you that the UK has long been Champagne’s leading export market, holding the number one slot for almost every year since the end of the Second World War. Go us. In order to commemorate our proven love for the bubbly stuff, National Champagne Week was founded by Searcy’s - a week-long celebration of accessible and approachable experiences for everyone to enjoy, celebrating the rich diversity of Champagne across some of the UK’s most iconic venues.

From champagne safaris to supper clubs, tastings and a ‘fizz quizz’, there are plenty of ways to celebrate thanks to their official diary of events, but if you fancy indulging at home then here are some of TOAST’s favourite fizz-related treats…

You’ve got mail!

And it’s champagne! Hooray! Legendary premium French champagne Veuve Clicquot are masters of ingenious, witty packaging, and this new mailbox creation is no exception. This somewhat eccentric American-style ‘mailbox’ makes a super stylish gift – the quirky tin can be kept for years to come and inside is a 750ml bottle of white peach, brioche and biscuit flavoured bubbles. Heaven.

Price £54.99, available from Selfridges

Stack ‘em up

Be it Christmas, a wedding, birthday, christening or National Champagne Week of course, nothing captures the essence of celebration like a Coupe Stack. This nifty kit comes complete with 6 unique champagne glasses that stack safely to create an impressive champagne tower. Grab a bottle of champagne, get pouring and the result is totally brilliant effervescent waterfall! Plus it comes complete with an elegant champagne napkin and coasters, all presented in a chic gift box, ready to create your perfect piece of decadent party theatre. A wonderful addition to any celebration!

Drink Me

OK, OK so technically this is actually champagne (it’s sparkling wine) but we couldn’t resist, because The Bubble from Grays and Feather is the world's smallest bottle of fizz! Filled with light, fresh and floral Austrian Grüner Veltliner, these enchanting little bottles make perfect place settings around a dinner table, or impressive arrival drink at your next do - simply pop open and drink with a straw! A cute little thank you gift and/or a fun, fizzy stocking filler.

What a corker

XLcork.com sell – believe it or not – GIANT corks, and we love their champagne cork stool. Impressively, it is the equivalent weight to 1,300 regular champagne corks (it is made from natural solid cork from Portugal) and makes a fun and quirky addition to any home or garden. Perfect for sitting on with a large glass of champagne, naturally. We also love their rather stylish Giant Champagne Cork Wire Cage Stool/Side Table too.

Price £150 (stool), £160 (side table) available from  XLcork.com

Low fat fizz

Forget skinny lattes, Thomson & Scott have created Skinny Champagne. Yes, that’s Skinny Champagne. Their fizz is 'low and no added sugar'. Rich, silky and balanced on the tongue, Thomson & Scott Skinny Champagne Grand Cru Brut combines an impressive 0g of sugar per litre, with the richness gained from four years plus ageing. Guilt free champagne - I can’t guarantee no hangover though.

Case of 6 bottles costs - £300 excluding delivery from Thomson and Scott.

Drink champagne and dance on the table? Why not. This fun, stylish print from the Old English Company will remind you to do just that (as if you need reminding). You can choose the size of your print as well as the colour – with a whopping 17 colour options to choose from. It’s then printed using thick 220gsm archival matte paper, which gives crisp lines and bold colours, and high quality inks to prevent fading over time. The perfect gift for the Patsy (or Eddie) in your life.
