The Glencairn, THE Whisky glass

Despite Whisky being one of the world’s most complex spirits there has never been single definitive glass that the whisky world could call its own. Now there is, thanks to Raymond Davidson of Glencairn Crystal who took it upon himself to design a glass specifically for the whisky drinker. A similar shape to a traditional sherry nosing copita that would encourage the user to appreciate the ‘nose’ of the whisky as well as the palate, the Glencairn was born. Now available across the world, it’s the perfect whisky glass, its size and shape accommodating a 35ml pour, whilst allowing for the addition of water but keeping an optimum amount of liquid in contact with air to allow the aromas to develop. A robust, yet delicate style, this the Glencairn will enhance your whisky experience from start to finish.

The Glencairn Official Whisky Glass - Set of 6 is available from Wineare UK priced £23.45

Scandi chic

For a splash of Scandi chic - both Eva Solo and Normaan Copenhagen offer up some seriously stylish options; Eva Solo’s statement slanted rim has a bold, contemporary appeal and its shape is specifically designed to enable effective and comfortable tasting from all sides. Normaan Copenhagen’s offering is more minimalist; a wide bottomed glass designed to feel comfortable in the hand, with a narrower rim to intensify flavours and smells. Both are smart options that are not just a pleasure to drink from, but look good on the table too.

Want something a little more traditional? Opt for Royal Brierley, founded in 1776, the longest established name in English Crystal. Their Tall Bruce glasses are beautifully traditional and feel luxurious. The hand cut crystal gives the glass some serious weight making it feel satisfying and substantial in the hand, whilst the fine fan and diamond cut design is classic and refined. A timeless tumbler.

Decant design

Uber cool London designer Tom Dixon has recently launched his TANK barware range, and it’s very, very cool. The TANK decanter is a definitely showstopper, with its contemporary design and art deco influences. Made from mouth blown clear glass it has hand painted copper detailing on the base inside, and on it’s impressive globe shaped stopper. It looks even more impressive when filled with whisky.

Label your tastings

British gift curators Clouds and Currents give the opportunity to personalise a beautifully simple, thick glass decanter by carefully engraving a name or short wording into the wooden stopper. Each stopper is crafted from wood, with a cork fastening and the engraving is modern and unfussy. Each bespoke decanter is made to order, and crafted and finished by hand in their studio in rural Essex. Perfect and unique way of labelling your whisky's so that guests know what they're tasting, or as a personal gift for your whisky tasting host.
